Tuesday, April 8th 2008, with the occasion of the International Day of Roma, at Dobresti, the Roma Youth Forum initiated by Ruhama Foundation promoted models of young Roma who succeeded in education. Young Roma students reiterated the importance of involving both families and educational and social institutions in supporting the children from poor Roma communities so they can continue the education.
“Today we mark a new moment in the recent history of Roma. A success we all are part of, educational institutions, activists, teachers, pupils and students, parents, both Roma and nonRoma. Young Roma students and graduates, through the power of their personal example, are the guaranty of the success of our common efforts, are the hope that the disadvantaged situation defining most of the Roma community at national level can be improved by investing in education.” stated Mr. Marian Daragiu, chairman of Ruhama Foundation.
7 Roma youngsters – 4 university students and 3 high school students – were in Dobresti, presenting their own success stories in the presence of 500 pupils from 10 schools, where the School Inspectorate implements the Phare project “A school for everyone” in partnership with Ruhama Foundation.
