school competition awards ruhama foundation bihorThe School Competition for best practices in the school desegregation process is designed in the shape of a contest aiming to support and mobilize local school to develop positive practices targeting school desegregation by making use of the recommendations of the legislative frame that sets this process in Romania (Government Order no. 1540 from 19/07.2007) and the best practices from other schools.

Thus, the opening meeting of the School Competition took place with the participation of the principals of the 20 school from our county participating in the competition. Within the meeting, participants debated over the aspects and effects of the school segregation, reaching both educational and social issues. Also, it have been presented and debated the negative practices that lead to segregation and how can we prevent and combat segregation.

In the School Competition, each school unit from the 20 localities will elaborate an institutional development plan that will promote the principles of inclusive education and a report about the situation of the school, quality of education and the results obtained in the implementation of the segregation combat plans according to the Order 1540 from 19.07.2007. The finality of the competition will take place just before the closure of the 2009-2010 school year, within a county event. Five of the schools involved in the competition will be awarded by Ruhama Foundation with equipments to improve the educational infrastructure in amount of 3.200 euro for each school. The awards in total amount of 16.000 euro are supported by the Roma Education Fund, within the project „Roma Education Centre. Developing and promoting inclusive and sustainable educational programs for Roma children through integrated community efforts”, a program designed to improve the access to education for Roma children of Bihor County, implemented by Ruhama Foundation in partnership with the School Inspectorate of Bihor County and the University of Oradea - Faculty of Social Sciences.
