Roma people from over 47 territorial-administrative units of Bihor County: Alesd, Batar, Balc, Budureasa, Buduslau, Balnaca (Suncuius), Bogei (Tauteu), Beznea (Bratca), Cefa, Cheriu, Chet (Marghita), Ciumeghiu, Cubulcut (Sacueni), Curtuiseni, Dobresti, Diosig, Finis, Gepis (Lazareni), Gepiu, Girisul de Cris, Glimea, Grui, Hidiselul de Sus, Ineu, Ioanis, Lugasu de Jos, Oradea, Ortiteag (Magesti), Osorhei, Osand, Popesti, Rieni, Salonta, Sacueni, Salacea, Sannicolaul de Munte, Sannicolau Roman, Santelec (Hidiselul de Sus), Silindru (Simian), Tamasda (Avram Iancu), Tasad, Tarcea, Tetchea, Telechiu, Tinca, Tileagd, Vadu Crisului, Vasad (Curtuiseni), received our support to obtain birth certificates, late registration for children over 1 year with no birth certificate, identity cards and other papers that allow these people to fully exercise their rights and obligations as Romanian citizens.
Between January and December 2008, Ruhama Foundation in partnership with the Bihor County Council – Territorial Authority for Public Order, Bihor County Department for People Registration, Institution of Prefect through the Bihor County Office for Roma, Police Inspectorate of Bihor County and Public Services for People Registration from Alesd, Marghita, Sacueni, Valea lui Mihai, Beius, Stei, Salonta and Oradea, carried out support activities for Roma people lacking identity, civil status and property papers in order to obtain these documents.
Through the two Phare projects called KON SEM ME? (Who am I?) Facilitating Roma citizens from Bihor County to obtain identity, civil status and property papers, Ruhama Foundation together with its partners aimed to improve Roma situation in Bihor County in order to promote social inclusion of Roma people with limited acces to public services or on the job market by reducing significantly the number of Roma lacking identity and/or civil status papers in the target communities and facilitating to obtain property titles for the land and houses of Roma where local administration involved in the project.
Ruhama Foundation initiated and implemented this massive campaign with financial support from the European Union and Romanian Government, within the Phare 2005 Program – Accelerating the Implementation of the National Strategy to Improve Roma Situation.
